Crazy chemistry: UTSA summer science camp

(May 5, 2009)--Twenty-five students who have completed fourth or fifth grade will have an opportunity this summer to work in college science labs, experiment with chemicals and build their own structures at UTSA's "Destination: Discovery" science camp June 8-19 at the Downtown Campus.

During the first week, Crazy Chemistry, students will perform experiments in formulating their sidewalk chalk and growing a crystal garden from common household items. The second week, Junior Engineers, will focus on structures, leading up to a bridge-building competition featuring edible construction materials.

"Destination: Discovery" emphasizes hands-on and interactive learning experiences. Classes are 8 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday, taught by education professionals and college-level lab assistants. Open to all San Antonio-area school districts, enrollment is $200.
