College of Business chosen for Accounting Doctoral Scholars program

(June 15, 2009)--The UTSA College of Business was selected as a participating university in the Accounting Doctoral Scholars (ADS) program administered by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Foundation. The ADS program was founded in 2008 by accounting firms to address the critical shortage of accounting doctoral faculty teaching auditing and tax.

One of only 40 programs chosen for this honor, the College of Business was selected for its record of interaction with the accounting profession, its strong placement potential and its academic program.

UTSA accounting doctoral students now will be eligible to apply for the ADS fellowship program which provides four-year $30,000 stipends for 30 candidates each year. Candidates must have recent and proven experience in audit or tax in a public accounting firm, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be committed to a career as an accounting faculty member focusing on teaching and research in auditing or tax. Applications will be accepted for the fall 2010 class from June 1-Oct. 1 at the ADS Web site.

The UTSA College of Business Ph.D. in business administration with a concentration in accounting is focused on the use of social science research methods to address empirical research problems in accounting. The Department of Accounting is separately accredited by AACSB International through the doctoral level in accounting.
