UTSA Learning Communities seeks volunteers for common reading selection
(May 11, 2011)--The UTSA Office of Learning Communities needs faculty, staff and student volunteers to participate in the 2012-2013 Summer Common Reading book selection committee. Avid and casual readers are invited to apply for the committee that will involve a six-month commitment.
The deadline to apply to be a volunteer is May 23, and the book selection committee will begin meeting in early June.
The Summer Common Reading is an annual experience that helps freshmen relate to one another through a common book. Incoming students are given information on the book during an academic session at freshman orientation and are expected to read it before the start of classes.
The author of the book will be the keynote speaker at the Fall Convocation in August during Roadrunner Days and also will host a meet-and-greet event.
Learning Communities students continue to use the book throughout the fall semester, and all faculty and staff are encouraged to use or refer to the book in courses, events and activities.
To participate in the committee or for more information, contact Julie Fisher, Office of Learning Communities, Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 1.02.04, Main Campus, at 210-458-7490.
