UTSA educational leadership professor is guest editor for international journal
(Aug. 11, 2014) -- Maricela Oliva, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, is the principal editor of a special issue of the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education. Oliva was joined by Harriett Romo, professor of sociology and director of the UTSA Mexico Center, and Victor Zúñiga, director of research and extension at the Universidad de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, as guest co-editors.
The special issue, La Educación en México/Education in Mexico: Extending Understanding of Educational Issues for the Region, is a three-year collaborative effort that covers school and post-secondary contexts in Mexico, including a language policy article co-written by Peter Sayer, assistant professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.
Along with Oliva and Romo, several UTSA graduate students and faculty members provided assistance throughout the editorial process, including doctoral student Nicole Reyes, anthropology professor Jill Fleuriet, and College of Education and Human Development faculty members Iliana Alanís, Lucila Ek, Anne-Marie Nuñez, Laura Rendón and Mariela Rodriguez.
