(Sept. 16, 2014) -- The UTSA Libraries and the U.S. Census Bureau, Denver Office, are partnering again to offer the third annual workshop on using Census data. The workshop is 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26 in the new state-of-the art GroupSpot digital classroom on the John Peace Library second floor on the UTSA Main Campus. The workshop is free and open to the public.

This year's topic is "Census Data for Health Care Planning and Community Assessment." Participants can try out collaborative software during the half-day, hands-on session. No prior experience with Census data or data tools is required.

The event may be beneficial for UTSA faculty, students, staff, researchers, health-care professionals, San Antonio area librarians and community members from nonprofits and government agencies.

Attendees will learn how to navigate the U.S. Census Bureau website and locate demographic data, race and ethnicity patterns, social and economic characteristics including disability and fertility, health insurance coverage, poverty levels and more.

In addition to Census 2010, American Community Survey and American FactFinder, the participants will use Small Area Health Insurance Estimates, Infographics and data visualization to better understand the changing demographics of Central and South Texas communities.
