UTSA professor participates in Washington panel on minority students
(Sept. 15, 2014) -- Anne-Marie Nuñez, associate professor in the College of Education and Human Development Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, presented her research this week at a panel in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center in Washington, D.C.
Nunez participated in the research and policy briefing, "Do Higher Ed Accountability Proposals Narrow Opportunity for Minority Students and Minority-Serving Institutions? What New Research Tells Us." The briefing for congressional staff, policymakers, advocates, researchers and the press was hosted by the UCLA Civil Rights Project.
Nuñez's presentation, "How the Shortcomings of a Postsecondary Ratings System Could Lead to Shortchanging Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) and their Outcomes," is based on a policy paper co-authored by Awilda Rodriguez at the University of Michigan. The paper explores accountability policies in higher education and their influence on minority students and HSIs.
Nunez was one of seven presenters from universities around the United States.
