UTSA's Dick Dawson honored by ACUA with two professional awards
(Oct. 24, 2014) -- The Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA) recently presented the prestigious Member Excellence in Service award and the Outstanding Professional Contribution award to J. Richard (Dick) Dawson, chief audit executive at The University of Texas at San Antonio. It is the first time that both ACUA awards were received by one person in the same year.
The Member Excellence in Service award recognizes a member who has made outstanding contributions toward fulfilling the mission of ACUA through volunteer service. The Outstanding Professional Contributions award recognizes a member who has demonstrated dedication to the profession of internal auditing in higher education.
Dawson has worked at UTSA for more than 25 years. He is a certified public accountant, certified internal auditor and holds the Certification in Risk Management Assurance.
Among his accomplishments at UTSA are the evolution and enhancement of the Office of Institutional Compliance as well as the growth and promotion of the Office of Auditing and Consulting Services. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas State University.
Dawson is a past president of ACUA and has served as an executive sponsor of the ACUA leadership development program, ACUA Leads. Currently, he is co-chair of the ACUA Risk Dictionary Committee and is a recurring speaker at the ACUA annual conferences.
ACUA is the premier professional organization for internal auditors in higher education and is committed to advancing the internal audit profession within the field. It is considered the foremost resource for leading practices in internal auditing, regulatory compliance and risk management in higher education.
