John Warren named associate dean of recruiting in UTSA College of Business
(Oct. 14, 2014) -- John Warren, associate professor of information systems and cyber security, has been named associate dean of recruiting in the UTSA College of Business. In this newly created position, Warren will be engaged in actively recruiting undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty members.
"John has an outstanding track record in recruiting faculty and students through his work with the Ph.D. Project, which supports minority faculty and doctoral student recruitment," said Gerry Sanders, dean of the College of Business. "He will work closely with UTSA admissions, college program directors and our undergraduate and graduate deans to find the most highly qualified candidates for the college."
Priorities for this role include implementing a college-wide effort to recruit transfer students; supporting new freshmen recruitment; formulating graduate recruiting plans; and assisting in recruiting new faculty, particularly underrepresented minority candidates.
"I look forward to this new role within the college," said Warren, who joined the UTSA faculty in 2003. "I've been reviewing strategies from other top institutions, and I plan on increasing awareness about the College of Business through hosting recruitment events, online college fairs and expanding scholarship opportunities for talented students."
Before entering academia, Warren was an entrepreneur who owned his own computer applications training and development company. He worked for 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry for such large companies as Pfizer, DuPont Pharmaceuticals and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
