UTSA announces formation of Center for Civic Engagement
(Nov. 13, 2014) -- The UTSA Office of the Vice President for Community Services has announced the formation of the Center for Civic Engagement.
In addition to expanding service-learning courses, the new center will promote a civic engagement culture at UTSA, assist faculty and students with community-based research projects, and develop a new tracking mechanism for university-wide community engagement.
The Center for Civic Engagement will be led by Brian Halderman, the previous associate director for service-learning in the UTSA Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion (SCCEI). In congruence with Halderman's transition, service-learning will now be supported by the Center for Civic Engagement, while the SCCEI continues to coordinate volunteer services and cultural programs for students and the community.
Jude Valdez, vice president for community services, said, "The Center for Civic Engagement will strengthen and amplify our existing, multifaceted involvement with the community and work on new program offerings to UTSA students, faculty, staff and community members."
The Center for Civic Engagement is in Frio Street Building Room 4.438 at the UTSA Downtown Campus.
