Celebrate International festival is Nov. 19 at UTSA Main Campus
(Nov. 18, 2014) -- UTSA will present the Celebrate International Festival from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the H-E-B University Center Ballroom (1. 104) on the Main Campus. Packed with cultural events, performances and food tastings, the event is free and open to the public.
Held during International Education Week, the event is an initiative driven by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to bring awareness to young Americans of their global environment and to promote the intercultural experience of living abroad.
"It is important that UTSA have events such as this that celebrate and honor our international student population because it allows our campus to become more aware as well as gives [students] a sense of belonging," said student Jenica Santos. "Allowing [time to celebrate] the cultural richness, sharing customs, ideologies and learning about the cultural diversity of UTSA provides a home-away-from-home for students."
The festival is sponsored by the Office of International Programs, College of Business International Business programs, University Center Programs, Delta Xi Nu and the Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion.
The event will include:
International Cuisine: Free tastings of banh mi sandwiches (Vietnamese), potato and cheese perogi (Polish), Nutella crepes (French), pad Thai (Thai), Patacones rellenos (Latin), Tatsutage fried chicken (Chinese), frittata (Italian) and poutine (Canadian).
