University of Texas System Founders Day is Friday, Nov. 14
(Nov. 12, 2014) -- The nine universities and six health institutions in the University of Texas System will celebrate UT System Founders Day on Friday, Nov. 14. Observed the second Friday in November, the UT System Employee Advisory Council created Founders Day in 2013 to demonstrate unity and pride in being part of the system. The UT System has served higher education in Texas for more than 130 years.
On Founders Day, UTSA community members are encouraged to wear UTSA colors and service pins in honor of the event. Students, faculty and staff also are invited to email photos of individuals and groups outfitted in UTSA colors to Venetta Williams, a UTSA member of the UT System Employee Advisory Council. The photos from each university will be compiled on the UT System website.
Created Sept. 15, 1883, with the first meeting of the Board of Regents, the original system institutions were the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Today, the UT System is one of the nation's largest systems of higher education with nine academic institutions and six health institutions that educate more than 216,000 students and employ some 90,000 faculty and staff.
Each year, UT System academic institutions award more than one-third of all undergraduate degrees in Texas, and its health institutions grant two-thirds of all health professional degrees.
The UT System health institutions provide care to millions of patients each year, and UT System faculty and students are engaged in cutting-edge research and making significant discoveries that benefit society.
Through the leadership of the Board of Regents, chancellor and UT System presidents, student success and access are top priorities for the University of Texas System, and UT institutions will continue to set the standard for excellence in higher education.
