A Commencement Message from UTSA President Ricardo Romo, December 2014
December 16, 2014
Dear Friends,
This week, more than 3,800 students will graduate from The University of Texas at San Antonio as part of our fall commencement. They are joining 100,000 Roadrunners who have earned their degrees from UTSA.
Commencement is an occasion I look forward to all semester. It is such a special time for our graduates and their families. Almost half of UTSA students are the first in their family to attend college.
They share this incredible moment with the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles who have supported them along the way. It is like they are all walking the stage together. These graduates create a tradition for their children and grandchildren to follow.
Earning a degree takes hard work, commitment and perseverance. Many of our students balance class time with jobs or families. Some take extra classes and study through the summer to complete their degrees. They persevere because they know the importance of getting a great education.
These students will leave UTSA well prepared and highly motivated. They will become tomorrow's business and community leaders, artists and teachers, scientists and entrepreneurs. They will help build the future of San Antonio and the world.
This is a great time for everyone to celebrate. Congratulations to all of our graduates and to the dedicated faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters who played a role in their success.
And, as we enter the holiday season, Harriett and I wish you the very best. Thank you for all you do for UTSA.
Go 'Runners!
Ricardo Romo
President, The University of Texas at San Antonio
