A Message from UTSA President Ricardo Romo, April 2016
(April 29, 2016) -- Dear Friends,
Hardly a week goes by that UTSA isn’t in the news because of a new accolade or recognition. Thanks to the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students, UTSA is earning worldwide recognition and esteem. That has been especially evident this month.
In early April, London-based Times Higher Education, considered one of the foremost authorities on excellence in education, named UTSA as one of the top young universities in the world. Only five U.S. universities were included on this prestigious list. UTSA was cited for its teaching excellence and for faculty citations, a measurement of the productivity of our researchers and the global prominence of their work.
Last week, Bloomberg Businessweek announced that, for the first time in its history, the UTSA College of Business has been ranked one of the top five programs in Texas. Equally as impressive, we are now ranked the No. 1 Hispanic Serving Institution in the nation, according to Businessweek’s measurement of Best Undergraduate Business Schools.
Yet another of our faculty members has just received an esteemed honor. Catherine Clinton is a pioneering UTSA historian whose research focuses on the American South and Civil War. She has just become the first UTSA faculty member to receive the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.
As a Guggenheim Fellow, Clinton will join an elite group of Nobel laureates, Fields Medalists, Turing Award winners and poet laureates who have been honored for their research excellence.
Each time I write to you, I reflect on UTSA’s many accomplishments. We have world-class faculty members who are shaping their fields. We have dedicated staff members who are devoted to advancing UTSA’s mission and vision. And, we have top-tier students who have come to UTSA because they recognize that UTSA provides opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else.
We have so much to be proud of, and I can’t imagine a more exciting time to be at UTSA.
Go ’Runners!
Ricardo Romo
President, The University of Texas at San Antonio
