The UTSA Police Department (UTSAPD) recently held its annual awards ceremony to recognize officers, staff and community members who provided exemplary service over the past year, as well as those celebrating recent retirements and milestone service anniversaries.

Annual Awards

  • Police Supervisor of the Year– Cpl. Charles Reyes
  • “Dan Pena” Officer of the Year– Ofc. Joshua Van Meter
  • Rookie Officer of the Year– Ofc. Amanda Villegas
  • Public Safety Officer of the Year– PSO Sierra Saenz
  • Inspiration Award– Erica Fuentez and Norma Hogan
  • Student Employee of the Year– Raina Dougherty
  • Employee of the Year– Belinda Hernandez

  Promotions

  • Rank of Lieutenant – Heather Walleck
  • Rank of Sergeant – Manuel Gutierrez
  • Rank of Corporal – Charles Speck and Santiago Valdovinos
  • Rank of PSO Supervisor – Jaren Diaz and Juan Martinez

  Special Recognition

  • Douglas Sonego, 35 years of Service

In addition to those listed above, LT Robinson, senior vice provost for Student Affairs and dean of students, and Alberto Herrera, Aramark catering director, were honored with a Golden Whistle Award. The Golden Whistle is UTSAPD’s top award, which honors individuals who provided a service either to the police department or the community that had a direct impact on public safety.
