Attending Commencement
Welcome, and congratulations on your graduate's remarkable achievement of earning a college degree! Commencement is not only a major event in a graduate's life but also a celebration and acknowledgement of you—friends and family—who have provided guidance, care and support to the new graduate. We hope the information on this website will help you have the most enjoyable experience possible on this special day.
Ceremony
- Doors will open approximately 2 hours before the ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Alamodome.
- All names will be called. The ceremony should take approximately 2—2.5 hours
- After the ceremony, please exit the Alamodome to congratulate your graduate. No re-entry will be allowed.
Alamodome Safety Procedures
The Alamodome has specific safety procedures that must be followed, including a prohibition on large bags, posters, noisemakers, banners, signs and more. All ceremony participants will be subject to a bag check and security scan. All attendees should carefully review the Alamodome Safety Procedures.
Tickets
No ticket is required. There will be open seating for guests.
The Doctoral Hooding ceremony is limited to four guests per graduate.
Flowers & Graduation T-shirts
Through an exclusive arrangement with The Commencement Group, The University of Texas at San Antonio will provide graduates, their families and guests the opportunity to purchase flower bouquets and graduation t-shirts to share during Commencement.
Throughout Commencement weekend, The Commencement Group representatives will be located in booths at the Alamodome. Each booth will have flower bouquets and graduation t-shirts available for purchase.
Orders can be made in advance by visiting The Commencement Group's website.
A portion of sales proceeds will be returned to the UTSA Alumni Association to provide financial support for official programs and scholarships.
For the Doctoral Conferral Ceremony
Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024 – 6 p.m.
Location: Arts Building - Recital Hall (ARTS 2.03.02B)
The Doctoral Conferral Ceremony will be livestreamed and available to watch beginning at 6 p.m. CST.
Before the Doctoral Conferral Ceremony begins:- 5 pm: Doors for the Recital Hall will open
- 5 pm: Initial call for guests to be seated
- 5:50 pm: Final call for guests to be seated
- 6 pm: Ceremony starts
- Guests are limited to four (4) per graduate due to limitations in seating in the venue. Graduates and guests will be seated separately.
- All names will be called. The ceremony will last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
- The Ceremony will take place in the UTSA Recital Hall, located on the 2nd floor of the ART building. Guests can access the Recital Hall using the elevator on the 1st floor of the ART building, which leads directly to the main door of the hall.
- If you are coming from the 2nd floor on the Sombrilla side, please enter through the second entrance (located closest to the stairs) and the Recital Hall will be on your right-hand side.
- Once you arrive, the building entrance is on the 1st floor.
- After entering the building, walk straight and take a slight left turn towards the elevators on the first floor.
- Take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Once you exit the elevator, turn right and continue walking until you reach the end of the hallway. The Recital Hall will be on the left-hand side.
Parking Options (Please see the parking map)
Free Parking:- Parking is available in the in the Bauerle Lot 1 (BR1).
- Parking is available in the garages. The nearest garage to the Art Building is the Ximenez Avenue garage.
- Please note that limited ADA parking is available at the Key Circle roundabout (only 15 spots) and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Parking is available in all campus garages and parking lots.
