FIVE AWARDS:
- Two awards for tenured faculty
- Two awards for tenure-track faculty
- One award for fixed-term track faculty
Purpose of Award
This award is to recognize, encourage and reward faculty who have conducted high-quality, high-impact research that shows distinct promise for national and international recognition and substantial contribution to the faculty member’s field.
Eligibility
Faculty nominated must have taught at least four consecutive long semesters (Fall-Spring) at UTSA. The awards are based on performance for the calendar year of the award. Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously won the award. Previous recipients of the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Research will be eligible for nomination after seven years.
Criteria
The selection committee will consider the following criteria in selecting winners:
- Degree to which nominee has demonstrated a current or cumulative record of excellent research that has had impact and earned recognition within the nominee’s field(s)
- Degree to which the nominee’s research has or likely will influence the faculty member’s field of scholarship

A selection committee composed of faculty will review nomination packets. The nomination packet for this award will consist of only the following, assembled into a single PDF file in the order indicated:
- Complete award nomination form
- CV of nominee
- Recent letter of support/nomination from a peer faculty colleague, department chair, or a college leader
- Self-statement of research and scholarly activity (not to exceed 2 pages):

- recognition of the work at the disciplinary, national, or international level
For assistant ranked faculty, the statement should speak to
- description of research accomplishments and measures of impact (citations, references or other measures of impact)
- recognition of the work at the disciplinary, national, or international level
- research agenda and in-progress scholarship and its importance to field
The self-statement and the nomination letters should use non-specialist language and explanations that explains the extent and the importance of the research, the nature of the venues in which it has been disseminated, and the impact that the nominee has had tenured, tenure-track or fixed-term track on the discipline.
No additional materials should be submitted.
Each dean’s office should upload completed nomination packets by the deadline.
