4.10 Approved Pay for Personnel Services Paid from University Funds Other than Regents' Budgeted Appointments
A wide variety of academic and associated functions are carried out within The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) for which compensation to faculty and other employees may be approved over and above regularly budgeted salaries. Such additional pay might consist of teaching noncredit courses or providing professional services to conferences, institutes, workshops and similar activities which may be carried out through the academic colleges or other approved units of UTSA which are involved in continuing education, extension or public service activities.
At present, teaching and professional services related to the following activities may be compensated:
- Organized noncredit courses
- Conferences and seminars
Prior approval for involvement of individual faculty or other employees of academic divisions must be secured from the dean of the appropriate college and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Involvement in such activities during the normal working hours of the faculty member should be discouraged and permitted only in unusual circumstances.
Prior approval for involvement of other employees must be secured from the appropriate vice president, depending upon the employee's unit.
Full-time faculty or employees may receive not more than $7,500.00 for teaching correspondence courses and extension courses during the fiscal year. (Reference: General Appropriations Act, SB 222, 71st Legislature, 1989, page III-133, section 7.3.)
Payments will be made on a "Departmental Payroll Voucher" which will be approved by the appropriate division director, the appropriate dean, and the Vice President for Business Affairs. All required payroll deductions will be made from such payments.
Certain events may require services of lecturers who are not UTSA employees. Employment of such lecturers should be approved by the dean of the appropriate college when sponsorship by the college is involved. These participants will be paid at negotiated rates and will be paid via "Local Funds Voucher" as lecturers. Prior approval by the President is required for any employee of a component institution of The University of Texas System or for any employee of another State institution and/or agency before services of such an employee are used at UTSA. (Please refer to Section 4.07 of this Handbook.)
