High School Program students meet twice a week either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday with some weekend events.

High school students are required to submit an application.

An application, portfolio review, and an interview process is required for selection to this program.

To participate in this program, students selected are expected to cover a $300 per term (fall & spring) studio fee for materials and supplies. For students in need of financial assistance, there is a limited amount of funding assistance available to offset the cost of the fee.

Tuition Assistance

Scholarships are available for community members who qualify. Teen Studio Intensive tuition assistance is offered on a case-by-case basis. Those interested in more information may contact Kim Bishop by emailing kimberly.bishop@utsa.edu

Middle school students are NOT REQUIRED to complete an application. Teen Studio Intensive is open to all prospective students who would like to attend. Follow the guidelines below to complete registration.

Registration

KIM BISHOP is the program manager for the Teen Studio Intensive program, She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Drawing and Painting from UTSA in 2022 and her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas State university in 2006. As a Texas all level certified teacher, she has been teaching and practicing art for more than three decades. Bishop’s works involve personal thematic issues in a variety of materials and techniques. Her work is part of many private collections as well as the collections of the University of Texas San Antonio, Texas A&M Kingsville, the San Antonio Public Library, the Oxbow Tower and the Pearl Brewery.

Her work can also be seen on the streets of San Antonio at several bus stops, as mural installations in the neighborhoods and across Texas in the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau billboards. Her latest public art piece is Poet’s Pointe, a pocket park in San Antonio that she designed with her partner Luis Valderas, opened to the community in June of 2023. Bishop is a co-founder of A3, a pop-up industrial street press, 3rd Space Art Gallery and is a mentor for the New York Foundation for the Arts. She recently co-authored the first Chican@ Art Curriculum book sponsored by the Department of Education and Centro Cultural Aztlan.

ALEX CHAMBLEY earned her Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Drawing and Painting from UTSA in 2024. As a certified teacher, she has two years of experience teaching art classes in public/private schools to students of all skill levels. She teaches undergraduate courses for UTSA COLFA as well as being the lead instructor for the Teen Studio Intensive program while maintaining her career as a practicing artist. In her work, she enjoys exploring the intersection of cultural and personal identity through painting, sculpture, and stop motion animation.

HILARY ROCHOW is an instructor/ artist in residence for the UTSA Teen Studio Intensive program as well as a multidisciplinary artist, designer and curator living in San Antonio, Texas. She holds a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Auburn University. Her formal training in design informs her understanding of visual cognition, which she employs in the detail of her ceramic sculptural works as well as in her illustrations of impactful figures in black ink on clean backgrounds. Her lifelong adoration of the natural world weaves its way into her choice of animal and plant subjects. Her drawings have been published in Passage, an online arts publication based in Dallas. She has shown work at multiple galleries including Flax Gallery, Space C7, and FL!GHT. She also operates a gallery, Rojo, and a studio in the Southtown Arts District.
