Librarians' Note: There two large notebooks were originally used by a railroad bookkeeper to record passenger and freight receipts between 1919 and 1927. Later, the ledgers found a second use as a recipe repository, in which almost 1,000 recipes cut-and-pasted from newspapers have been preserved, providing an unusual glimpse of Mexican household cooking. The recipes range throughout Mexico's regions, as well as Cuba, Puerto Rico, and South America, and the influence of France and the United Sttates is also evident.
