IT Governance

IT GOVERNANCE

At UTSA, IT governance is structured around a distributed ownership model, where individual units manage their own technology initiatives while receiving strategic guidance and oversight from University Technology Solutions (UTS). UTS reviews institution-wide technology project proposals to ensure they align with the university’s IT architecture and that the necessary infrastructure is in place for effective implementation and ongoing support. This governance framework involves assessing potential risks, resource needs, and operational impacts, as well as identifying opportunities for system integration to reduce decentralization and enhance efficiency across departments.

COMMITTEES CHARGE

TECHNOLOGY ADVISORY GROUP

The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) will act as an informational and consultative body to assist with reviewing all institutional technology project proposals in order to ensure that all proposed projects meet the university’s operational needs and allow for coordinated efforts with university processes and application capabilities.

Committee composition will reflect various functions within information technology.  In addition, subject matter experts and staff outside of information technology may be invited to attend meetings based on proposal requirements.

TECHNOLOGY PLANNING & PRIORITIZATION

The Technology Planning & Prioritization Sub-Committees review all institutional technology project proposals and recommend project prioritization to the Strategic Investment Advisory Committee in support of UTSA and University Technology Solutions strategies and plans.

SUBMIT A REQUEST

Submit a Demand Request for IT Governance Review. Once your demand request is submitted, a Business Relationship Manager (BRM) will partner with you to gather user requirements.

Working closely with stakeholders, the BRM will help develop business cases for your proposed IT projects, recommend existing solutions where appropriate, assess potential risks, and ensure alignment with strategic goals. Throughout the process, the BRM will facilitate communication and coordinate with relevant committees to smoothly guide your project from concept to implementation.
