(Oct. 31, 2014) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) graduate program in architecture has been ranked the 10th best in the nation by GraduatePrograms.com.
The website's graduate school rankings, which cover the period from Sept. 1, 2012, to Sept. 30, 2014, are based on ratings and reviews by current students and graduates. Graduateprograms.com assigns 15 ranking categories to each graduate program at each graduate school covering a variety of student topics such as academic competitiveness, career support, financial aid, education quality, and faculty accessibility and support.
Based on a 10-star rating system, with 10 the best, UTSA's architecture graduate program received an 8.3 rating. That made it the 10th best program in the nation, ahead of schools such as the University of Southern California, Columbia University, Cornell University and the Rhode Island School of Design.
"It's a remarkable achievement to be recognized as having one of the nation's top graduate programs in architecture," said John Murphy Jr., dean of the UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning (CACP). "I am especially pleased that this ranking came from students. They recognize that UTSA's top-tier graduate program provides them with the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to be effective designers and build successful careers."
The accolade comes just over two months after the UTSA Department of Construction Science in CACP was awarded a full-term initial accreditation for five years for its Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Construction Science and Management degree program by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).
The achievement placed UTSA's construction program among one of only 76 accredited baccalaureate degree programs in the United States.
