UTSA Student Leadership Center hosts Storytelling Series luncheon
(Dec. 12, 2014) -- The UTSA Student Leadership Center recently hosted the popular Storytelling Series luncheon. The luncheon held in the spring and fall semesters brings together students, faculty and staff in a casual atmosphere where they can connect and discuss their leadership stories, experiences and challenges.
This semester, the Student Leadership Center collaborated with Fraternity and sorority Life to host the Fall Storytelling Luncheon Series. The luncheon included students from the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, the Pan-Hellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council. The luncheon theme was leadership and values in fraternal organizations.
Participants included a mix of students and UTSA alumni. The alumni at the luncheon included Elisa Perkins, assistant director for diversity recruitment; Heather Green, director of development communications; B.J. Winston, outreach coordinator with Worldwide Clinical Trials; and Nathan McDuell, volunteer coordinator with the Center for Healthcare Services.
Also sharing their leadership stories were more than 30 fraternity and sorority life students from various chapters and councils at UTSA. Among the student attendees were 10 students who facilitated discussion at each table.
These facilitators took the lead role in guiding the discussion around leadership styles, qualities and experiences. The facilitators were Cinthya Garcia, Katiuzca Loaiza, Raven Bradley, Brelyn Donato, Sage Sanders, Luisa Castro, Matt Kenny, Margot Perez, Susanna Mancera and Fez Jameel.
"It was good to bring different members of different councils together to talk and brainstorm ideas," said Destiny Jones, senior kinesiology major. "We were able to learn about each other, and we found a lot of ways we were similar and different. We were also able to discuss ways we can collaborate in the future."
"I got to meet students from other chapters and learn about their value and leadership skill sets and I got feedback that I can use in my chapter," said Cameron Shieb, sophomore business administration major.
