UTSA students learn about the music industry and network with top professionals at Music Biz Day, April 29

(April 26, 2017) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio's Music Biz Day connects students with a passion for music with professionals in the industry.
Stan Renard, assistant professor of Music Marketing at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), came up with the idea last year to give students the opportunity to network and learn about the music industry. Now in its second year, Renard said Music Biz Day is the largest university event of its kind in the United States.
"Music Biz Day connects individuals who share a passion for music," said Renard. "The networking event allows attendees to interact with music professionals around San Antonio and the country."
Renard's student Zena Gittens, who is studying public relations and is in the top-tier Music Marketing program at UTSA said Music Biz Day allowed her to network and even land two internships and a job in San Antonio.
"Music Biz Day is a good opportunity for students to make those professional connections and get insight into the music industry," said Gittens, who is from Houston. "This is a good event for anyone studying music, business and even engineering who has a passion for music because this event allows you to learn about all the different opportunities available."
Renard said the event will be engaging and include several workshops and panel discussions focusing on topics such as, the role of the radio, press, and blogs, music technology, services for musicians and the many facets of the music industry and more.
The entire UTSA and San Antonio community are invited to attend this free event on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 8:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Arts Building on the UTSA Main Campus.
The UTSA Department of Music is nationally recognized and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The department includes top-tier faculty members and researchers who prepare students to become performers, educators and leaders in the music industry.
