As finals approach, UTSA University Center transforms to study center
(April 26, 2017) -- The last hurdle of the semester standing between University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) students and their summer plans are their upcoming final exams. Finals are known as a time of stress, sleep deprivation and frantic studying. The UTSA University Center (UC) recognizes what a difficult time this is for students, and transforms its buildings each semester to meet the needs of hard working students.
Beginning Monday, May 1 through Tuesday, May 9, the UC will be open 24 hours a day. This means students can use not only the common spaces, couches, and tables, but also all of the rooms within the UC for studying purposes.
UTSA multidisciplinary studies sophomore Taylor Cole says she likes to study in the UC because the furniture is comfortable. Other students prefer the quiet spaces available within the UC. During finals, students are looking for any quiet space to cram for exams, write papers and prepare for presentations. Students are encouraged to utilize more than 20 rooms in the UC that will be available around the clock during the final exam period. Each door will be marked with a sign indicating it is available for study when the room is open.
In addition to being open 24 hours a day, the UC also offers a full host of amenities for students. They can take a quick nap in the Bean Bag Lounge on the first floor of UC North, or charge up their devices from one of several Rowdy Charging Stations. If students need to relax and take a few minutes away from intellectual pursuits, they can head over to The Roost game room for a quick game of pool or a video game competition.
The UC Programs Office will also be offering Study Breaks for students May 3 to May 5 and May 8 and 9 in the UC Window Lounge located in UC North. Students are always hungry and love getting free snacks. Study Breaks will include free breakfast tacos at 9:30 a.m. each day and free snacks and chair massages from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. The free massages are a favorite part of Study Days, and all students are invited to come and relax during this free break.
The services the UC offers year-round will be available as well:
- Meditation Room: open and available for relaxation
- UPS Store: students can print out papers and presentations
- Roadrunner Express: sells scantrons, pens, pencils and other exam necessities
- Campus Technology Store: offers jump drives, chargers and more
