(May 24, 2019) – As the school year winds down, the summer camps programs at UTSA are ramping up. Dozens of summer camp opportunities are available at UTSA for children from kindergarten through high school and even young adults.
UTSA camps cover every interest—from science, engineering and architecture to sports, music and writing. The camps offer participants a place to try something new while having fun and spending quality time with UTSA's outstanding faculty, staff and students. While at UTSA, campers will also meet new friends who share similar interests and passions.
Throughout the summer, UTSA hosts half-day and full-day sessions at the Main and Downtown Campuses. Some last a few days while others extend a week or two.

UTSA 2019 summer camps:
Around the World with Archaeology
Campers ages 9-13 will discover the field of archaeology and explore archaeological sites from Asia, Africa, Europe, Texas and more with the archaeologists at UTSA’s Center for Archaeological Research. Campers can expect archaeology themed activities, games, crafts and a hands-on look at artifacts in a lab.
Summer Career Academy in Architecture and Interior Design
This two-week camp introduces high school and college students and adults to the careers and education of architects and interior designers. Campers will gain hands-on insight from UTSA's world-renowned faculty and find out if interior design or architecture are right for them.
Monarch Butterfly Ecology Summer Camp
UTSA environmental science staff and students will share their knowledge and passion about the state insect of Texas. Campers will learn what's being done to increase the monarch butterfly population and how to have an appreciation for wildlife and wildlife conservation. This camp is intended for children ages 6-12.
Hydrology (All About Water) Camp
Campers will explore all the different places water lives around us. Campers will discover the unique underground water systems in Bexar County and learn about ground water, water cycles, drinking water and the creatures that call the Edwards Aquifer home.
Criminal Justice Summer Camp
High school juniors and seniors go behind the crime scenes and discover law enforcement processes for investigation. Students will apply scientific theories to criminal investigations by examining a mock crime scene. Students also receive the distinct opportunity to tour the FBI Crime Lab.
Engineering Summer Camp
This exciting and interactive day or overnight camp for high school students will teach engineering design and problem solving approaches using out of the box thinking. The camp will have interactive workshops, hands-on challenges, tours, panels and competitions.
STREAMsation
Campers in grades 1 - 8 will use modern and ancient technology to participate in hands-on activities to explore and expand their understanding of science, technology, reading/language arts, engineering, art and mathematics.
Girl CodeRunners
This free camp for female middle school students includes hands-on activitites to help them explore and expand their understanding of webpage design using HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Animation, gaming, storytelling using SCRATCH and Robotics using LEGO Mindstorm EV3.
Summer Band Institute
Middle and high school school musicians will focus on developing their musical and playing techniques. Campers will perform with one of UTSA's concert bands and attend classes that include rehearsals, sectional and master classes and performing soundtrack music.
Percussion Camp
This camp will immerse students in 6th-12th grades in the exciting world of percussion, helping them develop their technique and musicality, improve sight reading abilities and learn about new styles of music and instruments through interactive masterclasses and ensemble experiences.
Choir Camp
Choir leaders from prominent Texas high school music programs and UTSA's superb conductors and faculty will provide an intensive study of the All-State Choir audition music. High school students planning to participate in the All-State process are encouraged to register.
Performing Arts Camp
This intensive workshop style camp is for students interested in the performing arts - both onstage and behind the scenes. Students will receive instruction in acting, voice, dance, theatre history, music theory, costuming and stage properties. The camp culminates with a performance on the final evening.
String Project Guitar and Orchestra Camp
This camp welcomes current year-round UTSA String Project students (of all ages) and public, charter, and private school string and guitar students who will be entering grades 6-9 in August of 2019 for a week-long summer program focusing on building technique and exploring alternative styles of music.
Japanese Language and Culture Camp
Campers will enjoy the summer learning to read, write and speak the Japanese language. They also will learn about the Japanese culture and spend time cooking, creating arts and crafts activities with an East Asian theme. This camp is intended for children ages 7-12.
Chinese Language and Culture Camp
Campers ages 6-12 will immerse in Mandarin classes, learn colors and numbers, hold daily conversations and learn how to say family members in Chinese. They will participate in various Chinese cultural activities, including making traditional Chinese food.
Young Writer's Camp
Emerging and fluent writers can practice and refine their writing skills, share with others and grow as artisans and thinkers. Each day, students will investigate the art of writing, apply the craft to their own writing, and celebrate what they have done with fellow campers.
Roadrunner Readers Program
The tutoring sessions are designed to help children in 2nd-8th grades who are reading below grade level. Tutors identify the child's strengths and needs and create highly engaging literacy experiences designed to support literacy growth and development.
Sports Camps
UTSA will host a variety of sports camps for the novice athlete to the aspiring Olympian. Athletes of all ages will have the option of choosing baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, football, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball camps.

Sombrilla Plaza, Main CampusCovidence is a systematic & scoping review tool used to streamline the process of screening and reviewing articles. Using this software, research teams can easily import studies, perform automatic deduplication, and extract data using templates. This workshop will show attendees how to start a review in Covidence, add collaborators, and get started on screening.
Virtual (Zoom)In this workshop, attendees will be introduced to Pandas, a Python tool for working with data easily. It makes it simple to organize and analyze information when data is organized and categorized, like spreadsheets or tables.
Group Spot B, John Peace LibraryEach fall and spring semester, students convene at the Main Campus at UTSA with booths, ideas and prototypes. A crowd of judges, local organizations, students, faculty and sponsors walk around and talk to the students about their projects and ask questions. Students get the real-life experience of "pitching" their project with hopes of getting funding or support to move to the next level.
