APRIL 1, 2022 — Today is the day when the usual buzz of this college campus comes alive with colorful banners, the smell of fried foods and the sound of cascarones cracking—and the laughter this activity brings with it—as UTSA celebrates the 42nd annual Día en la Sombrilla.
The public is invited from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to enjoy this free, family-friendly, official Fiesta San Antonio event taking place at the Sombrilla and Central plazas of the UTSA Main Campus.
As participants weave among the booths featuring food, drink and games, they are also raising funds for the registered student organizations hosting the booths.
This year marks a new feature to this campus tradition: A chance to win the official UTSA Fiesta 2022 medal. Follow @UTSA on Instagram and Twitter for details.
The campus tradition, which began in 1978, continues to grow and evolve. The theme of this year’s event, “Explore Discover Reclamar,” marks the re-envisioning of the celebration and its return after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is hosted by Roadrunner Productions, a sponsored student organization focused on fostering and building traditions and community through campus-wide programs, activities and special events.
