SEPTEMBER 19, 2024 — One of the most anticipated events of UTSA’s 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is coming up this weekend. UTSA Football will face off with the Huskies of Houston Christian University during the annual Hispanic Heritage Game at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the Alamodome.

The game day festivities will include several events showcasing Latino music and dance. Three-time Grammy winner Sunny Sauceda will play a free concert beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Rowdy Town Live at H-E-B Plaza on the north side of the Alamodome. Sauceda is a popular Tejano artist and accordion virtuoso who melds a traditional style with infectious beats.

Later that afternoon, the Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band will perform a special halftime show featuring Tejano star Shelly Lares, Mariachi Los Paisanos and Ballet Folklórico San Antonio. With a career spanning more than four decades and 25 albums, Lares is one of the most enduring artists in the Tejano music scene. The acclaimed singer-songwriter is currently an artist-in-residence at UTSA, where she coaches the university’s vocal students and mariachi ensemble in addition to providing lectures about music technology to help students master innovative recording and editing techniques.

Roadrunner fans will also be treated to a sweet surprise after the final whistle. Taco Cabana will give fans a free BOOM! Triple Chocolate Cookie as they exit the Alamodome following the game.

In addition to the Hispanic Heritage celebration, UTSA Athletics will salute first responders (police, fire, sheriff, EMS, etc.) during the game as part of the Hometown Heroes program. UTSA is offering a buy one, get one free ticket promotion for Saturday’s matchup for all first responders in the San Antonio area.

UTSA (1-2) will look to finish up its non-conference schedule with a victory over Houston Christian (1-2) before its competition in the American Athletic Conference starts with a road clash at East Carolina on Saturday, September 28. Exuberant Roadrunner fans have made the Alamodome a house of horrors for opposing teams in recent years. UTSA boasts a remarkable 24-3 record in home games since head coach Jeff Traylor’s first season at the helm in 2020. The Roadrunners will lean on that rowdy home-field advantage again on Saturday to gain some momentum before conference play starts.

Roadrunner Nation is invited to show its school spirit on Saturday at the following family-friendly events:
