OCTOBER 15, 2024 — As part of its ongoing celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, UTSA Today is taking a look at some of the unique artistic expressions on campus that celebrate the tradition and richness of this culture.
The works are spread out over various points on the UTSA Main Campus. Take a walk to the second floor of the John Peace Library (JPL 2.01.01), for example, to see the portrait of renowned wrestler El Santo.
The third floor of the Main Building (MB 3.112) is home to a portrait of artist Frida Kahlo, who continues to inspire people today.

Todo Tiene Su Efecto, 2013, by Adriana M. Garcia, is located in the Main Building in the ConTex Department (MB 1.410).
Lucha Libre: The Man in the Silver Mask, 2007, by Xavier Garcia, is located on the second floor of the JPL, next to South Commons.
Historic San Antonio, 1980, by Sandra Freeze Hulse is located along the JPL’s grand staircase on the second floor. The tapestry was created for what was then the First Federal Savings and Loan office in San Antonio. Guaranty Bank, which acquired the First Federal in the 1990s, ultimately donated the piece to The UTSA Art Collection.
Fiesta, 1985, by Luis Jimenez. is located in the John Peace Library (JPL 2.01.34).
Yo No Cuento Pero Debo Contarte, 2005, by Alberto Mijangos is located in the John Peace Library (JPL 2.01.01).
Frida Grandísima, 2003, by Richard Duardo, is located in the Main Building (MB 3.112).

Sombrilla Plaza, Main CampusCovidence is a systematic & scoping review tool used to streamline the process of screening and reviewing articles. Using this software, research teams can easily import studies, perform automatic deduplication, and extract data using templates. This workshop will show attendees how to start a review in Covidence, add collaborators, and get started on screening.
Virtual (Zoom)In this workshop, attendees will be introduced to Pandas, a Python tool for working with data easily. It makes it simple to organize and analyze information when data is organized and categorized, like spreadsheets or tables.
Group Spot B, John Peace LibraryEach fall and spring semester, students convene at the Main Campus at UTSA with booths, ideas and prototypes. A crowd of judges, local organizations, students, faculty and sponsors walk around and talk to the students about their projects and ask questions. Students get the real-life experience of "pitching" their project with hopes of getting funding or support to move to the next level.
