UTSA recognizes World Mental Health Day, provides resources

OCTOBER 10, 2024 — Editor’s note: The following message was sent today via email from UTSA President Taylor Eighmy, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Shipley, Chief Enterprise Development Officer and Executive Vice President for Business Affairs Veronica Salazar, Faculty Senate Chair Alex Godet and Staff Senate Chair Justin Marmolejo to all faculty and staff.

Today is World Mental Health Day — a globally recognized day to raise awareness about critical mental health issues to encourage action that creates lasting change. As a campus community, it provides an opportune time to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an environment that supports well-being.

While we recognize the significance of today, we also know how important it is to live out this commitment every day. We encourage you to reach out to friends, peers and colleagues on a regular basis to check in, offer support and let them know they are not alone.

We invite you to explore UTSA’s free resources and participate in well-being efforts across campus. Academic Affairs also recently launched a well-being task force to amplify, enhance and expand well-being programs. Other resources include:

  • Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program – Confidential counseling, referral and consultation services for faculty and staff. The toll-free hotline is available 24/7 at (888) 993-7650.
  • Healthy Minds at Work – Available on-demand from Deer Oaks beginning October 10, this free online seminar explores ways to craft supportive workplaces that promote employee engagement and resilience.
  • Use the iConnectYou app for 24-hour professional support via call, video or text.
  • 988 Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, along with prevention and crisis resources.

Please know you are an appreciated member of the Roadrunner family, and we thank you for continually contributing to our culture of well-being. Together, we will continue to make UTSA a great and supportive place to work, learn and discover.
