FEBRUARY 26, 2025 — Presented by North Park Subaru, the UTSA Alumni Association’s 2025 Diploma Dash 5K saw record-breaking participation and fundraising despite cold temperatures, with almost 1,900 participants, over 70 dogs and 30 sponsors joining the event. This year’s Dash raised more than $110,000, the highest support in the event’s history. Proceeds from the race will be contributed to the UTSA Alumni Association’s programs, operations and scholarship fund, which provides more than $150,000 in scholarships annually to UTSA students.
According to Melissa Adame '98, Diploma Dash board member and event chair, the race is a homecoming experience for many UTSA alumni and community members.
“Diploma Dash is one of my favorite events because it brings alumni, faculty, students and community partners together for a great cause—raising funds to support our students,” Adame said. “This event not only promotes health and UTSA spirit but also creates a true homecoming experience on campus.”
UTSA alumnus and event emcee, Rob Wicall '94, shared his experience participating in the race.
“The Diploma Dash is an event I’ve been running in for years,” Wicall said, “so to be a part of it, help my alma mater and hopefully build on an event that is already superbly 'run' is a dream for me—giving back to the school that gave so much to me many, many years ago.”
Hosted by the UTSA Alumni Association, the annual 5K unites alumni, students and the San Antonio community in support of student scholarships.
