Financial Aid Disbursements
This type of refund applies to students who receive financial aid that exceeds their university charges. When your financial aid, scholarships, grants or loans create a credit balance on your student account, the excess funds are disbursed to you. This refund is different from a tuition refund.
Financial aid disbursements are issued according to the Financial Aid Disbursement Schedule. Exact timing depends on:
- When your financial aid is disbursed
- Completion of all aid requirements
- Resolution of any enrollment or eligibility issues
Financial aid disbursement dates are available online. Additionally, disbursement information based on the type of financial aid you expect to receive is also available.
Tuition and Fee Refunds
This type of refund applies to students who drop or withdraw from courses. If you reduce your course load or withdraw from the university, your tuition and fee charges may be adjusted based on the university's published refund schedule. Keep in mind the following important information:
- Refund eligibility is determined by your drop or withdrawal date
- Tuition and fee adjustments are calculated according to university refund policies
- If a refund is due because of a schedule change or withdrawal, the refund is not finalized until enrollment is reviewed after the census date
- Not all drops or withdrawals result in a refund
Understand Refund Eligibility and Census Date Deadlines
Tuition refund percentage depends on if you are dropping a course or fully withdrawing from the university. Download the academic calendar to view tuition refund dates and percentages.
- Dropping: Students will receive a 100 percent refund through census date when dropping one or more specific courses. For more information, see the university's Student Policies Catalog, Refund Policy for Withdrawal or Dropped Courses.

Tuition Refund Processing After the Census Date
Students can start to see tuition refunds after the census date. The census date is the deadline by which all enrollment and payment arrangements must be finalized. If you do not officially withdraw by the census date, you may remain liable to pay for your enrolled courses, even if not attending classes.
Refunds are either direct deposited or mailed via U.S. Postal Service to your current mailing address on myUTSA Account.
