Highlights

Roadrunner Days!

The beginning of the semester brings Roadrunner Days, two weeks that are filled with fun and educational events for new and returning students to settle into the fall semester. The first week, August 23-31, events will be focused on connecting students to students. Midnight Light, Late Night at the Rec, Celebrate UTSA and the Get Involved Fair are just some of the events where students can meet new friends, reconnect with previous classmates, and create fun memories.

From September 1 - September 7, week two of Roadrunner Days, Roadrunners are invited to attend events connecting them to the services offered throughout campus. Students can learn about academic support services and campus involvement opportunities available to them throughout the year. Encourage your student to attend events throughout the two-week period of Roadrunner Days to help them discover opportunities available to them at UTSA

Resources and Opportunities

Email on Laptop There are several ways departments and colleges communicate with students which include emails, social media, and flyers around campus. UTSA also has two regular emails sent to students throughout the semester.

  • Campus Link is a weekly email sent to all currently enrolled students on Sunday evenings.
  • Resident Report is an email sent every other week on Wednesdays to all students living within UTSA Housing or Campus Living Villages.

Both emails highlight events, opportunities for involvement, and services offered to students throughout the year. Many of which we also share with families in the Family Association Newsletter. Encourage your student to check their email and learn about upcoming events!

Internship

Support systems for UTSA students play a vital role in the students’ success on campus. Whether individuals have a preconceived notion of the fraternity and sorority experience or no opinion at all, it is important for families to have insight into the fraternity and sorority experience, especially the community at UTSA. Fraternities and sororities are value-centered organizations striving for academic excellence, giving back to the community through philanthropic efforts and community service, and developing fellowship among members.

  • Take the time to learn more about the Fraternity/Sorority community at UTSA and the national organizations.
  • Ask questions about what the organizations will offer your student to encourage them to make the best decision when joining.
  • Discuss the financial obligations with your student. Determine who will pay for what and the limits those expenses may include. Joining a fraternity or sorority is a lifetime commitment, both personally and financially.
  • Encourage your student to get involved in all aspects of campus; especially leadership opportunities offered.
  • Know the names of the fraternity/sorority president, new member educator, big brother/big sister and the organization advisor.

Above all, be supportive! If you ever have questions, please reach out to the Fraternity/Sorority Life office at FSLife@utsa.edu.

UTSA Rings

Parking Permits
A valid parking permit is required to park on UTSA campuses. A wide variety of permits are available to suit your Roadrunner’s needs and budget, including surface, garage, garage reserved and evening-only permits. Order online through MyParking. Permits are mailed within five to seven days, and a printable temporary permit is available for immediate use until it arrives. Roadrunners can pay at the time of purchase or add the cost to their tuition and fees.

The Runner
The Runner, UTSA’s transit system, provides service to and from on-campus parking lots and select nearby apartment complexes. Service is funded by the transportation fee paid by students each semester. Riding The Runner is a great way for students who live near campus, or those who commute and arrive during peak times, to catch a ride to the heart of campus.

Parking & Transportation Guide
While you’re preparing your Roadrunner for the fall semester, we encourage you to check out our online parking and transportation guide. It has helpful tips for parking and getting around campus, whether they commute, attend remotely, live on campus or live nearby. Also, be sure to review our color-coded parking maps to explore parking options based on permit type.

Conversation Starters With Your Roadrunner

The start of the academic year brings transitions for both students and parents. It might mean an empty home for some parents while students will be experiencing their new-found independence. It is important to check in with your roadrunner throughout the semester about their academics and campus involvement. Be sure to ask questions and listen to your student to see how you can provide insight and help to them as a new college student.
