Summer 2008: Central Texas River Basins and Watersheds Field Trip

Dr. Hatim Sharif in the Deptartment of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UTSA led the 6-day field trip to examine the major river basins and watersheds. There were 10 MORE students and 7 other students and visiting/exchange scholars from sciences or engineering majors attended the trips.

May 26-27 Monday-Tuesday	Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory in Temple/Hewitt, TX.

Summer 2007: West Texas Field Trip

Dr. Lance Lambert in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at UTSA led the 6-day field trip to west Texas and southern New Mexico. It was such a great experience for all of students (7 students attended). Dr. Xie was one of the drivers for the trip.

July 30 Monday	Western Escarpment GSSP; structural geology.
July 31 Tuesday	Travel back to San Antonio.

Summer 2006: West Texas Field Trip

West Texas and southern New Mexico are desert areas featuring extensive and noteworthy geologic outcrops and exposures including ancient and recent volcanics, rift valley faulting, mineralization, karst, and evaporated basins. This is one of the best places in the world for studying geology and applying geological remote sensing techniques. Dr. Lance Lambert in the Deptartment of Earth and Environmental Science at UTSA will lead the 10-day field trip. In addition to the 10 MORE Science students, 8 geology majors will join the field trip. Dr. Xie will be in the first part of the trip and Dr. Ponomarenko will join the last part of the trip.

May 17 Wednesday	Leave UTSA, travel to El Paso. Stay at LaQuinta Baymont.
May 18 Thursday	All morning and early afternoon at UTEP: presentations given by UTEP professors, discussions, and campus tour. Later afternoon: explore Hueco Mtns and Salt Flat Graben. Stay at Washington Ranch, NM near Carlsbad Caverns.
May 19 Friday	Arid shelf environments: shoreline, shallow shelf, back reef, island deposits.
May 20 Saturday	Reef and slope environment, Mckittrick Canyon.
May 21 Sunday	Basin environment, western escarpment, Guadalupe Mtns.
May 22 Monday	Basin road cuts, regional geology, travel to Big Bend. Stay at Big Bend Motor Inn.
May 23 Tuesday	Structural geology.
May 24 Wednesday	Big Bend volcanics.
May 25 Thursday	Stratigraphy of the Edwards aquifer environments.
May 26 Friday	Regional facies relationships, travel back to UTSA. Stay at your home.
