Mary G. Hernandez, M.B.A.
Mary G. Hernandez, M.B.A., serves as the Senior Vice President for Administration and Operations and Chief Operating Officer at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Mrs. Hernandez oversees critical administrative units, including People Excellence, Campus Services, the Business Affairs Business Service Center, Risk and Emergency Management and Strategic Services.
Since joining UTSA in 2019, she has been instrumental in implementing numerous institutional initiatives and programs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she orchestrated the university's comprehensive operational response and recovery, ensuring the well-being of the campus community while maintaining continuity of essential operations. Mrs. Hernandez co-chairs the Campus Experience Task Force, which focuses on enhancing campus experiences, flexible work arrangements, and optimizing course modalities. In 2024, she led UTSA’s collaboration with Centro San Antonio and VIA to introduce The Little Runner, a free e-shuttle service that boosts sustainability and convenience for the downtown campus.
Prior to her tenure at UTSA, Mrs. Hernandez served as the President's Chief of Staff and Board Liaison at Texas Southmost College, optimizing institutional operations and governance. As the Senior Executive Director for Procurement and Travel Services at Texas State Technical College, she successfully led various business process redesign projects, standardizing procurement operations across 10 campuses and system administration.
With a career that spans over 25 years of professional experience in higher education administration, Mrs. Hernandez demonstrates an unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of excellence. She is committed to advancing UTSA’s mission and empowering the university to achieve its fullest potential.
Mrs. Hernandez earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences and her Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Brownsville. In August 2024, Mrs. Hernandez was recognized as an honoree in the San Antonio Business Journal’s Women’s Leadership Awards program.
