UTSA Facilities Earns CPS Energy Demand Response Rebate for 2024
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) continues to lead the way in energy conservation, earning a $46,511 rebate through CPS Energy’s 2024 Demand Response Program. This marks the ninth consecutive year UTSA has participated in the program, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to sustainability and responsible energy use since 2016.
During summer 2024, UTSA Facilities achieved impressive energy savings, reducing electrical demand by an average of 664 kW during peak periods—enough to power approximately 130 average-sized homes. These efforts not only help the university lower operational costs but also contribute to reducing strain on Texas’s electrical grid during high-demand times.
“UTSA Facilities is proud to support energy conservation programs that benefit both our university and the community at large,” said Anna Morton Rivera, executive director of energy management. “Our participation in the Demand Response Program reflects our dedication to fostering sustainability on campus and beyond.”
CPS Energy representatives recently stopped by campus with a giant check in hand to formally present the rebate to UTSA. The funds will be reinvested into the university’s ongoing energy and water conservation initiatives, furthering UTSA’s commitment to environmental stewardship and operational efficiency.
UTSA’s continued partnership with CPS Energy underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in building a more sustainable future for San Antonio and the state of Texas.
