January 2, 2017 Payroll and IRS Form 1095-C

Timing of January 2, 2017 Payroll

Employees paid on a monthly basis who work during the month of December 2016 are scheduled to be paid on the first workday of January as mandated by the State of Texas. Because January 1 falls on a Sunday, the first workday for UTSA will be Monday, January 2, 2017.

It is important to be aware that, for holidays falling on a Sunday, all Federal Reserve banks and branches are officially closed the following Monday.

Though banks are officially closed, they still have several options for how they do business. They may open their lobby and customer service lines. However, because they are officially closed, they are not required to post direct-deposit payments. This means state employees cannot be assured that their direct deposits will be posted to their accounts until the next business day, which is January 3, 2017.

Paper checks will be readily available in accordance with the January 2 pay day.

IRS Form 1095-C

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires employers to send employees IRS Form 1095-C for 2016 no later than March 2, 2017.

The 1095-C form will contain important information about health care coverage. You will receive the 1095-C form if, during 2016, you:

  • Were enrolled in health care coverage from UTSA at any point during the year
  • Worked an average of 30 or more hours per week at UTSA during the year

If you receive this form, you will need to keep it with your tax file. While the form is not required to be submitted with your taxes, you need to retain it.

We will continue to keep you informed about this important tax document. Please watch for future communication via email or visit the HR website for more details.

If you have any questions, please contact our office.

You may view the blank 1095-C form here on the IRS website.
