Downtown Luau a Big Success

In celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Month, the Office of Student Activities collaborated with ARAMARK and Campus Recreation to sponsor a Luau at the Downtown Campus.

Over 100 students enjoyed free samples of roasted pork, rice, corn and pineapple salsa provided by ARAMARK, while listening to Hawaiian music performed by Kai Kamaka, Events Coordinator for the College of Sciences.

Kai was joined on stage by COLFA Associate Dean for the Downtown Campus, Steven Levitt, for an impromptu jam session. UTSA is overflowing with talent!

Sally, I really appreciate your help and genuine concern with this...It has taken me a long time to graduate and a lot of money. I have always worked full time and usually 2 or 3 jobs at once while still going to school, but I did it.

Walking the stage is so important to me and why I was really pushing so hard to do it. This is not only for myself but for my family to see me walk that stage, that I finished this huge accomplishment through a lot of hard times.

Although a diploma is nice I really think the stage and walking across shows a true symbol of not only graduating but a new step in your life.

I am so glad you gave me that extra advice to finalize me not being there Saturday because if not I would have done it, and more than likely hurt myself. Hope everything goes well for the graduation commencement, and again thank you for your help, it is truly appreciated. You do not know how much this means to me!

Submitted by a student who had a medical condition, which we accommodated by moving him to the December Commencement ceremony.
