NIUTSA…
a 15 Year Tradition at UTSA!

Michelle Rocha, Assistant Director of Student Activities, contributed the following recap of NIUTSA, and how it relates to our work across Student Affairs.

NIUTSA, a 15 year tradition at the UTSA Downtown Campus, is a wonderfully collaborative way for Student Affairs staff to continue important UTSA traditions that deepen our connections with the broader San Antonio community.

This year’s NIUTSA theme, “Fiesta Fantasia” attracted an all-time high attendance of nearly 500!

Mariachi Alegres de San Antonio kicked off the event followed by the Nashville-based Street Corner Symphony, runners-up of NBC’s singing competition The Sing-Off and one of the preeminent a capella groups in the nation.

During the band’s break, the crowd was entertained by two UTSA student members of the Argentine Tango Club. We have so many talented students at UTSA!

Like Fiesta, NIUTSA is a party with a purpose and all about family-friendly entertainment for our students. Along with a balloon artist, face painter and wax flowers, there were also educational booths sponsored by community partners – Mothers Against Drunk Driving and TXDot Fiesta Sober!

It was also an opportunity for participants to help support the following UTSA student organizations: Council of Business Scholars, International Interior Design Association, Public Administration Student Organization and United States Green Builders Council.

UTSA Downtown Campus staff from the ACE Scholars Program, Admissions & Welcome Center, the Tomas Rivera Center and the Undergraduate Advising Center all got into the Fiesta Fantasia theme by sponsoring game booths and a photo booth.

The 15th Annual NIUTSA was a HUGE success thanks to all of the UTSA students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, family, friends and community guests who were there!

See you all there next year!
