Collaborate for Student Success

This past summer, the Student Affairs Education Team had a retreat in which lots of aspects of Student Affairs Training was discussed. Specifically, a large point of discussion, was evaluating the feedback we received from our Student Affairs’ Training Classes - True Colors, 4Cs, and REACH.

It is no secret out there, that our division’s most valued, favored, and loved training class is True Colors. It is considered by many to be a “gem” that is unique to UTSA Student Affairs. In fact, many institutions are interested in adapting a similar model to instill within their division.

Alas, it is also no secret that the most under anticipated training class, which had the most “opportunities for growth”, was Four C’s. I understand the feedback we received for this training as it seems pretty obvious, right? Of course, we communicate, collaborate, connect and create with each other to develop magnificent programs and services for our students! I mean, just take a walk down the UC Paseo, or a stroll in the Sombrilla, and you will see the Four C’s in action. From departments across campus advertising another department’s event, to walking by an ad for Athletics’ social media – our campus is exuding the Four C’s daily. So what is the need to take time out of our precious day to train on this topic? Well, to be frank, it is because UTSA Student Affairs cares.

  • Our division cares about our students.
  • Our division cares about our employees.
  • Our division cares about you.

Our division cares about our students and staff so much, we hold mandatory training to make sure we are all on the same page to teach responsibility, engaged citizenship, and active leadership to our students, each other, and ourselves. We hold each other accountable in working together as a team, unified and unique in all that we do.

The Student Affairs Education Team has had many conversations in revving up and reformatting the Four C’s training and ultimately, we think we found a pretty good solution – condensing Four C’s and REACH into one training! The new format is expected to rollout to new Student Affairs staff this fall 2014. I think most employees and departmental leaders will be satisfied with the new format – less time out of the work day and the same, effective, valuable information; served with coffee and cookies of course.

So, when the new Four C’s/REACH training rolls out this fall, do not be surprised to learn that UTSA Student Affairs has incorporated care into the Four C’s framework: it was an idea brought forward by staff in one of the Four C’s classes.

Care.

Because Our division cares about our students. Our division cares about our employees. Our division cares about you.
