Snapchat 101: Students in the Here and Now

Snapchat has become one of the top ways that people are communicating on social media. Snapchat now boast close to 200 million active users per month, making it a powerhouse in the social media world.

Snapchat can be a great and fun tool for your brand. Here are some tips to help get started in the world of Snapchat:

  • Have Fun!: The first rule of snapchat is not to take things too seriously. Snapchat is a place where you can give people a break from life and a good laugh or insight into your brand.
  • Back Stage Pass: One of the things Snapchat users are looking for when they follow a brand on Snapchat is a look at things they cannot see themselves. Do not be afraid to pull back the curtain on how things get done. The Health and Wellness Center can ‘Get to Know Your Doctors’. Athletics can show the Equipment Manager putting new decals on this week’s helmets. The Campus Rec can show maintenance being done on machines or training student workers. Professors can show themselves grading papers on a Sunday evening. The options are endless—show your behind the scenes lives and connect on a deeper level with students!
  • Be Aware of the Attention Span: Snapchat stories only have a lifespan of 24 hours and attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. Keep your pictures short (2-3 seconds) and mix in some videos. Always be on lookout for fun and new ways to update your Snapchat and keep it fresh and exciting!
  • Experiment: Snapchat is fairly new to the social media scene. With that being the case there is room to try something new. Do not be afraid to try something you would never do on a traditional social media account.
